The 2021 is the outlier. On its own it has 119 of the ’s 698 complaints (17%), more than any other ProMaster model year. By area, nothing stands out. Engine and cooling leads with 174, with the electrical system (159) and the powertrain (129) close behind.
Owner data is modest, with about 120 NHTSA complaints in the busiest year and CarComplaints reports only for 2014 to 2016. NHTSA owners of the 2015 describe transmission and shifting trouble, 2021 owners often mention the rear camera, and 2023 owners report loss of power steering. CarComplaints lists squealing brakes and no start problems for 2014. The ProMaster commercial van carries its VIN on a plate at the base of the driver's side windshield. Stickers appear in both the driver's door jamb and the sliding door jamb. The firewall inside the engine compartment carries a stamped number. Commercial conversion vans often have secondary interiors installed after factory assembly, verify that conversion work hasn't obscured or replaced any VIN label positions.
The 2021 leads with 119, ahead of the 2023 (95) and 2015 (83). Those first two alone make up 31% of the 698 ProMaster complaints filed with NHTSA, not adjusted for sales.
